Akai releases MPC 2.10 firmware update, which features 14 new plugins, four new synth engines and the first-ever vocal tuner for standalone units. Other highlights include:
- Four new plugin instruments – Odyssey, Hype, Solina and Mellotron
- New AIR Vocal Insert Effect Suite with Automatic Vocal Tuning, AIR Doubler and AIR Harmonizer plugins.
- Seven new insert effects including half-speed, stutter, diode clipper and more
- Ten new drum pad effects, including Bitcrush, Ringmod, Decimator and more
- MPC Drum and Keygroup Engine enhancements including dedicated pitch, envelope, Akai Pro Sample Tail and Keygroup Portamento.
- New Sample Key Detection
- USB Class Compliant Audio Interface support
Standalone Vocal Tuner
MPC users have been graced with a new AIR Vocal Suite for MPC One, MPC X, MPC Live II and MPC desktop software. This means they have a dedicated array of plugins to allow them to record and produce directly from their standalone hardware MPC devices.
The AIR Vocal Tuner is the first vocal tuner available on standalone units and can be used to correct pitch when dialling in vocal tracks, whether that be subtle fixes or a modern auto-tuned vocal sound.
The AIR Vocal Doubler plugin allows for thickness and dimension to be added to any vocal track, through a layered sound or a wide stereo spread. AIR Vocal Harmonizer plugin effortlessly creates rich, layered harmonies without delay. In addition, the plugin allows the user to transform a single voice into an entire 4-part vocal backing section without recording, editing or stacking multiple takes.
Four new Plugin Instruments
Four new plugin instruments with world-class Sound Engines comes with the MPC version 2.10 features update in the form of Odyssey, Hype, Solina and Mellotron.
The WayOutWare Odyssey plugin instrument is a recreation of the analogue duophonic synth and was created using filters, circuit-modelled oscillators and additionally adds a fully automated GUI.
The AIR Hype plugin is from the Akai Pro FORCE and comes with over 1500 presets, including analogue synths, pianos, leads, Wavetable Pads, FM plucked instruments and more. It also features detailed macro controls to modify, alter and save a vast range of parameters from the well-stocked preset library.
The AIR Solina plugin is a version of the well-known string machine where you can layer multiple tones or play a single synth part. It also features a new in-built AIR Flavor effects panel where LoFi textures can be added to the synth sounds.
AIR Mellotron is a reformation of the classic tape-based keyboard machine. It comes with a vibrant GUI, and intricate textures and tones can be dialled in directly on their MPC. It also features the AIR Flavor effects panel, as discussed above.
Seven new Insert Effects are also present with the MPC 2.10 update. It includes Half Speed, Diode Clipper, Stutter, Granulator, AIR Limiter, AIR Diffuser Delay and Sample Delay. In addition, ten new Drum Pad effects are also included with the update, which allows the user to mangle and distort audio as they wish.
More features with the MPC 2.10 Update
In addition to the above, when any suitable audio interface is connected, the number of inputs and output increases to 32. Increasing the inputs allows for more recording on the MPC One.
Expanding the outputs means routing audio to your favourite analog outboard gear, namely the MPC Live II and MPC X, all via a single USB cable. Finally, the MPC standalone now supports USB Class Compliant audio interface units.
