Today Denon DJ has announced their latest release of the Engine Operating Software version 1.6. The new, improved and ever-evolving update includes access to Dropbox, Beatsource LINK, stacked waveform view, flexible beat grids and track preview. Several enhancements and bug fixes have been made within this latest version, along with the anticipated and highly tested macOS 11 Big Sur compatibility.
See below for more in-depth information, along with an exclusive integration offer from Denon DJ and Dropbox.
Direct Dropbox Integration (Engine PRIME and Engine OS)
Engine OS now allows DJs to access their music library on Dropbox directly. Users can remotely access their files wherever they are in the world thanks to syncing their Engine PRIME collections to Dropbox. The music files stored on Dropbox can also be directly accessed on any standalone Engine OS hardware device, negating the need for Engine PRIME. This takes standalone streaming capabilities to the next level.
Denon DJ and Dropbox are celebrating this complete integration by offering Engine OS users a free 6-month 25GB space boost. To take advantage of this exclusive offer, DJs will need to register their Engine OS product on the Denon DJ website.
Beatsource Streaming (Engine OS)
Beatsource Streaming is a streaming service for DJs. It holds an exclusive selection of music and playlists from top record labels and pro DJs worldwide.
DJs can browse, search and play the content from any Engine OS device. Vital performance information such as Key, BPM, Hot Cues and Loops are also available and can be saved directly to the DJ’s source drive (where the data can be stored and recalled when the track is played next).
Track Preview (Engine PRIME and Engine OS)
On all Engine OS units, including the PRIME 4, there is now the option to preview a track straight from the library. The tracklist can be quickly previewed by tapping the album artwork instead of loading the entire track first. Not only that, the ‘needle-drop’ feature is available where the user can trial different parts of the song. These time-saving features are great when mid-mixing and stopping the trawl through endless albums and tracklists.
Beat Grids (Engine PRIME and Engine OS)
The latest update allows DJs to create flexible beat grids for tracks with multiple BPMs manually. Tempo anchors with assigned BPM values can be placed at various points of a song. This is an excellent feature for transition or multi-genre tracks where the tempo changes are intentional.
Any Engine OS device that runs version 1.6 can detect tracks that have flexible beat grids and applies the BPM changes automatically to ensure everything is kept in sync.
Stacked Waveform View (SC5000/M and SC6000/M)
Mixing between layers has never been easier with the new stacked waveform view included in version Engine OS 1.6. As the PRIME Series SC5000, SC6000 and SC6000M media players offer the option of playing two tracks from a single deck, this feature couldn’t have come at a better time.
On the display, in single view, DJs can see dual-waveforms for each layer, along with track info and performance pad feedback.
Bug fixes and Enhancements
Improvements have been made to the collection navigation behaviour and double-tap to load, Retrigger option has been added for Saved Loops and for the PRIME 2, PRIME 4 and PRIME GO, the horizontal layout has been upgraded. A number of rekordbox import alterations have been made, including retaining Date Added Field (ENGINE PRIME) and Hot Cue colour and importing Hot Cue Loops as Loops.
