Ableton Live 12 is a fast, fluid, and adaptable software for music creation and performance. It has a variety of effects, instruments, sounds, and creative tools, allowing you to create any type of music.
Create your own sound using Live's extensive library of instruments and effects, or transform a wide array of curated Packs into something entirely new. And, because the software allows you to do everything in real time and is completely customisable, it's ideal for live performances and hands-on play, regardless of your setup.
Sequence your music using Live 12's linear Arrangement View, or the Session View to improvise and experiment with ideas outside of a timeline. Change the tempo and timing of any audio in real time without interrupting the music using Live's warping. Record MIDI or real-world instruments, vocals, or other sounds and use Live's creative capabilities to improve your performance, generate new ideas, or turn spontaneous moments into music. Use MIDI Transformations to add changes to your patterns, and MIDI Generators to generate fresh ideas that you can transform into your own. Use Sound Similarity to identify presets and sounds that are similar to those you are working on.
Ableton Live 12 brings with it an array of new features.
Use MIDI Transformations to create ornaments and articulations, draw acceleration and deceleration curves, connect consecutive notes and chords, and replicate a guitar strum. Take advantage of MIDI Generators, which allow you to generate playful and original ideas that you may develop and make your own. Extend your capabilities with enhanced Max for Live Transformations and Generators.
Begin with a sample and instruct Live's browser to identify similar sounds and instrument or drum presets using a suite of powerful machine learning techniques. Alternatively, utilise Simpler or Drum Rack's Sound Similarity to identify and swap similar samples.
Work outside of 12-tone equal temperament, and utilise your preferred tuning with Live's devices as well as any MPE-compatible plugin or hardware.
Alter or develop ideas within the constraints of the chosen scale, or match the scale of MIDI devices to the audio clip being played.
Roar, Live's new saturation and colouring effect, allows you to create anything from subtle and precise mastering-grade warmth to wild and unpredictable sound deterioration. Meld's twin sound engines provide opportunities to experiment with various textures and timbres. Alternatively, Granulator III, the most recent generation of Robert Henke's granular synthesis instrument, allows for considerably more expression.
Use your keyboard and mouse to edit MIDI in new ways. Divide a note in two or split it into many sections. Choose a series of notes and connect them together, or have them cover a specific time span. The Note Utilities panel allows you to access additional tools such as Fit Scale, Humanise, Add Intervals, and more.
Layer Live's Clip and Device Views to view more of your track's activity. Use Live's Mixer in Arrangement View to gain additional information and control without switching to Session View and disrupting the flow. The new tagging system and search history in the Browser make it easier to discover new sounds and find them again. In addition, you can freeze and flatten a track in a single step.
Visually challenged artists can now utilise screen readers and other assistive technology to access fundamental workflows in Live, as well as new keyboard shortcuts to navigate almost every section of the software.
Learn new methods for performing on the move with the four Max for Live devices in the Performance Pack, discover unusual instruments and unique foley recordings in the Lost and Found collection, and get your hands on authentic hip-hop and trap rhythms with two drum Packs from Sound Oracle.
Creating with Live has no bounds. With Live's two modes of operation and a plethora of creative tools and sounds that can be combined in countless ways, the only limit to your music is your imagination. Live gives the tools you need to capture your ideas as well as uncover new ones. Its synthesisers use wavetable, FM, subtractive, granular, analogue, and physical modelling architectures to produce a wide range of sounds. Every Live edition includes the Core Library, which contains vintage synths, analogue drum machines, keys, multi-sampled drums, and much more.
On stage, you can play, resequence, and remix your music in real time. Use versatile MIDI mapping to configure practically any aspect of Live for hands-on management with your controller. You can create your own unique combinations of instruments and effects, as well as control any number of parameters with up to 16 Macro knobs. Find your favourite settings and save them as macro snapshots to create builds, drops, and instant variations during your performance.
Use Live to bring your show together. Control external hardware, including outboard effects and mixing desks. Improvise your own sounds, resample them, or process audio played by others in real time. And Live can be a dynamic component of the band, listening to incoming audio and adjusting its tempo in real time. DJs can also utilise Live as a tempo-synced FX box.
Connect Live to any MIDI controller, including MPE-compatible devices, to apply bends, slides, and pressure to individual notes in a chord, make subtle expression modifications, and use your hands to create dynamic audio tapestries.
Extend your setup with Ableton Link, a technique integrated into Live that keeps numerous devices in sync across a network connection. It makes it simple to use alongside other music software such as Reason, Serato, and an ever-expanding list of iOS apps and Link-integrated gear. And with Note, our iOS tool for sketching musical ideas, you can start a track on the move and finish it in Live.
Max for Live, which integrates the Max programming environment directly into Live, enables even more inventive ways to connect and customise. It allows you to customise many of Live's gadgets, create your own from scratch, and even hack Live's functionality. You may link Live to a variety of devices, including lights, cameras, sensors, and surround sound systems.
