KingKORG NEO features the XMT virtual analogue sound engine. XMT stands for eXpanded Modelling Technology, and it was designed to provide a wide range of sounds while remaining straightforward to use.
Embracing the desire for different tonal capabilities, the KingKORG NEO includes a variety of oscillator algorithms. This synthesiser is capable of catering to a wide range of musical needs and preferences, from the conventional sawtooth and square waves to the more sophisticated noise patterns typical of analogue synthesisers, and even PCM/DWGS.
The painstakingly crafted filter section at the heart of the KingKORG NEO is a defining feature of the synthesizer's distinct musical identity. Korg have packed KingKORG NEO with a broad assortment of filters, each of which adds a unique character to sound compositions, an area where analogue modelling excels. The KingKORG NEO's filter selection is a goldmine for sound designers. It includes a diverse set of fundamental analogue modelling filter types, allowing you to create sounds with precision and ease. One of the most appealing aspects of these filters is their capacity to self-oscillate when the resonance is increased, which is a hallmark of traditional analogue synthesis. This feature allows us a plethora of sonic possibilities, from generating ethereal textures to crafting powerful, resonant sounds.
The KingKORG NEO synthesiser has a balanced XLR input on the front panel and contains a durable, high-quality goose-neck microphone. This configuration allows you to immediately plunge into the realm of vocoding.
At the heart of the KingKORG NEO's vocoder is a sophisticated 16-band filter that rivals specialist vocoders. This powerful function lets you create traditional vocoder tones. The formant shift function allows you to vary the filter frequency while finely altering the level and pan of each band, resulting in a variety of unique and creative sounds. Whether you want vintage charm or a modern edge, this vocoder easily adjusts to any genre or style. Timbre B can be used as a modulator, offering an alternative to the standard microphone input. This allows the vocoder effect to be easily merged with the synth sound, opening up new creative possibilities.
Furthermore, each of the three oscillators, A and B timbres, can be chosen independently as a source for the microphone input. This one-of-a-kind function allows you to synthesise a diverse range of voice and instrument sounds, resulting in a novel and engaging timbre fusion.
The KingKORG NEO enhances your sound with three master effect slots, each with six unique effect kinds. The PRE FX slot adds grit and edge to effects like distortion and amp simulator. MOD FX gives your music the vintage beauty of phaser, chorus, and tremolo. The REV/DELAY slot includes ambient effects such as hall reverb and modulation delay to help you create expansive atmospheres. Adjusting and selecting these effects is simple, due to dedicated dials on the front panel for each slot, which are supplemented with FX control knobs for finer adjustment.
The KingKORG NEO's revolutionary Virtual Patch technology captures the spirit of classic synthesisers such as the MS-20. This simple function extends the versatility of physically patching synthesisers into the digital era. With six Virtual Patch assignments for each timbre, you may digitally connect control signals like EG, LFO, or joystick motions to crucial sound characteristics such as pitch and cutoff. This seamless integration enables complex modulation and a deeper investigation of sound-shaping, bringing your music to new levels of aural creativity.
