The Pioneer DDJ-SX3 DJ controller supersedes the Serato based DDJ-SX2. It is a 4-channel DJ Controller that has been designed for use with Serato DJ Pro. It has been crammed with even more features, both new and improved, along with extensive connectivity. The DDJ SX3 continues with a familiar layout that allows for intuitive play. The controller itself is sturdy, durable and features a black, aluminium and gunmetal grey finish that highlights the different controller sections.

DDJ-SX3 Video Introduction

The DDJ-SX3 has 16 sturdy performance pads (8 on each deck) where Sampler, Pitch Play, and Hot Cues can be triggered. The pads are backlit making it easier to pinpoint the pad mode and status. The jog wheels feature an on jog display which provides you with instantaneous info about the current status of playback and position. The Dual USB ports allow for seamless transitions when switching DJs, and when playing back-to-back performances. The dual ports allow you to connect two computers that are running Serato DJ Pro or connect an additional laptop/computer should the one you are using encounter a fault.

Pioneer DJ's SX3 still features the ever popular twin Mic inputs from the SX2 with the new addition of a dedicated Mic input and level control knob, situated on the front of the controller. EQ, low-cut filter and level can be controlled, along with being able to add compressor and reverb to each. Performances can also be improved by administering Sound Colour FX or Serato DJ Pro FX to the two connected Mics, situated at the rear of the unit.

The controller includes the renowned Sound Colour FX in the form of Echo, Jet, Filter and Noise FX all of which can be used to add exclusive sounds and textures to your mixes. This is an advanced key related feature which allows you to harmonically and efficiently mix tracks using Key Sync, Key Shift, Pitch Play, and more. Key Sync is where you have the ability to sync the keys of tracks during a mix, Key Shift is where you can adjust the key of tracks by semitone and Pitch Play is where you can trigger hot cues in a range of keys and then allocate them to the performance pads, resulting in them being played like a keyboard.

Pioneer's DDJ-SX3 can be used as a standalone DJ mixer by connecting a multiplayer or analogue turntables. There are four external input terminals suitable for connecting many devices. There is also XLR and RCA master out terminals and a TRS jack booth out.

The DDJ-SX3s all come with Serato Flip. This feature enables you to create and save hot cue sequences, after which you can modify your tracks and use the Serato Flip controls to play them back. There is also the option to repeat and skip track sections wherever you are. The license for Serato Flip is included with the purchase of the controller.

There is also the ability to jump to a specific part of a track using the needle search pad. Additionally, there is slip mode which allows for a track to continue playing silently during a sample, loop or hot cue, and when the jog wheel is released the track plays back at precisely the right place and point in time. Finally, there is the option to upgrade to Serato DVS. The expansion pack for this is available separately.

Overall, the Pioneer DDJ-SX3 controller is suitable for a variety of venues, and thanks to its connectivity and flexibility its ideal for a range of DJs especially mobile DJs (of which this range so far has been highly rated).
