Workflow is at the forefront of Reason 13, and it includes an improved sequencer, five new devices, a fresh new browser, and even more sounds. Reason 13 is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it also sounds great. Along with the sequencer, the entire Reason interface has been redesigned.
The new Browser collects all patches, samples, and loops into a single area. Find the appropriate sound by filtering by name, type, categories, and tags. Simply type in what you are looking for, and the browser will provide suggestions, or use the Category and Tag icons to refine your search to locate new sounds.
Reason's content is now categorised and classed, allowing you to explore sounds in a completely new way. This includes all soundbanks, Reason studio devices, and sound packs. More than two decades of sound design are available for usage, and everything that isn't already marked can be tagged by you.
The sequencer has been separated in two. The new Edit Area allows you to experiment with the intricacies of your music while keeping track of the arrangement. The updated sequencer has several new workflow improvements, increased zooming, layout changes, and rapid access to editing options, making it easier to create music.
Reason 13's sound bank library now includes over 1000 new patches, samples, REX loops, demo songs, and song starting templates.
Polytone is a synthesiser designed for synth fans. Inspired by old gear, it was designed to reproduce the warm analogue tones you know and love. Even better, Polytone has two levels that may be stacked or warped to create extremely fat or transforming sounds.
Ripley combines delay and reverb with distinctive filtering, noise, and distortion effects. When paired with complete modulation, you may create any delay you want, from crisp taps or warm analogue sounds to outrageous lo-fi chirps or faded out ambiences. Everything that adds character and depth to your song.
Three new technologies simplify common tasks for a more efficient workplace. The Sidechain Tool ducks signals, the Gain Tool regulates signal levels, and the Stereo Tool expands a simple signal to make it sound larger and wider.
Drums, bass, piano, synths, strings, percussion, textures, keys, mallets, organ, woodwind. Reason comes with just about every instrument you can imagine.

Reason Studios has released Reason 13.1, a free update to the acclaimed Reason 13 software, delivering powerful new tools and enhancements to inspire music makers. This update introduces two fresh Player MIDI effects, expanded customisation features in the browser and device palette, and further improvements to the sequencer, making music production more intuitive and creative.
The latest Player MIDI effects, Random Tool and Note Tool, open up new possibilities for dynamic and expressive compositions. Random Tool adds controlled unpredictability to pitch, velocity, and note length, creating natural variations that bring tracks to life. Note Tool offers precision editing for MIDI performances, enabling detailed adjustments like fine-tuning velocity curves, transposing notes, and sustaining chords hands-free—perfect for crafting expressive and intricate arrangements. These new additions build on the success of Reason’s popular Player MIDI devices like the Bassline Generator and Chord Sequencer.
Reason 13.1 also enhances the browsing experience, giving users the ability to create custom tags for organising over 30,000 included patches. In addition to the pre-existing tags like “Punchy” and “Layered,” users can now personalise their library to fit their workflow. Other updates include new metadata for sound designer credits, advanced filtering options, and a revamped info area displaying detailed patch attributes.
The Device Palette has also been upgraded, offering even more control for managing plugins and devices. Users can now favourite, hide, and categorise devices, as well as create their own tags for efficient navigation, such as grouping tools under “Vocal Effects” or “Drum’n’Bass Essentials.”
Reason’s sequencer sees further refinement in this update with two highly requested features: a tool for slicing clips or notes into specific divisions, like 16th notes, and a function to split clips at the song position pointer, allowing for faster and more flexible editing.
Reason 13.1 is available now as a free update, with all devices also compatible through the Reason Rack Plugin (VST3/AU/AAX), making it accessible in any DAW.
