Reason 13 has a high importance on workflow, which includes an improved sequencer, five new devices, a redesigned browser, and extra sounds. Reason 13 is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it also has excellent sound quality. In addition to the sequencer, the entire Reason interface has undergone a revamp.
The new Browser centralises all patches, samples, and loops into a single location. Discover the appropriate sound by applying filters based on name, type, category, and tag. Enter your desired search query and the browser will offer ideas, or utilise the Category and Tag icons to narrow down your search and discover fresh audio options.
The content of Reason is now organised and categorised, enabling you to explore sounds in completely novel ways. This is applicable to all soundbanks, Reason studio gadgets, and sound packs. You have access to over twenty years of sound design, and any unidentified elements can be tagged by you.
The sequencer has been split into two halves. The enhanced Edit Area provides the opportunity to manipulate the subtleties of your song while simultaneously monitoring the composition's structure. The revamped sequencer incorporates several novel workflow enhancements, including enhanced zooming capabilities, layout customisation options, and expedited access to editing settings, thereby facilitating the music-making process.
The Reason 13 sound bank library has expanded to include more than 1000 additional patches, samples, REX loops, demo tracks, and song beginning templates.
Polytone is a synthesiser designed specifically for individuals who have a strong interest in synthesisers. It drew inspiration from old-fashioned machinery and was designed to replicate the cosy, analogue sound qualities that you are accustomed to. Moreover, Polytone offers the option to combine or manipulate two levels, resulting in significantly amplified or transforming sounds.
Ripley combines delay and reverb with distinctive filtering, noise, and distortion effects. By utilising extensive modulation, you may attain a wide range of delay effects, ranging from precise taps or warm analogue tones to eccentric lo-fi chirps or subtle ambient fades. All elements that contribute to the unique qualities and depth of your song.
Three emerging technologies streamline common tasks, leading to increased efficiency in the workplace. The Sidechain Tool attenuates signals, the Gain Tool regulates signal levels, and the Stereo Tool enhances the perceived size and width of a simple signal.
Drums, bass, piano, synths, strings, percussion, textures, keys, mallets, organ, woodwind. Reason comes with just about every instrument you can imagine.

Reason is a software designed for music production, allowing users to capture and explore their creative ideas. It is user-friendly yet can be as comprehensive as you wish, and it encompasses all the necessary elements to express your own identity.
Reason Studios has released Reason 13.1, a free update to the acclaimed Reason 13 software, delivering powerful new tools and enhancements to inspire music makers. This update introduces two fresh Player MIDI effects, expanded customisation features in the browser and device palette, and further improvements to the sequencer, making music production more intuitive and creative.
The latest Player MIDI effects, Random Tool and Note Tool, open up new possibilities for dynamic and expressive compositions. Random Tool adds controlled unpredictability to pitch, velocity, and note length, creating natural variations that bring tracks to life. Note Tool offers precision editing for MIDI performances, enabling detailed adjustments like fine-tuning velocity curves, transposing notes, and sustaining chords hands-free—perfect for crafting expressive and intricate arrangements. These new additions build on the success of Reason’s popular Player MIDI devices like the Bassline Generator and Chord Sequencer.
Reason 13.1 also enhances the browsing experience, giving users the ability to create custom tags for organising over 30,000 included patches. In addition to the pre-existing tags like “Punchy” and “Layered,” users can now personalise their library to fit their workflow. Other updates include new metadata for sound designer credits, advanced filtering options, and a revamped info area displaying detailed patch attributes.
The Device Palette has also been upgraded, offering even more control for managing plugins and devices. Users can now favourite, hide, and categorise devices, as well as create their own tags for efficient navigation, such as grouping tools under “Vocal Effects” or “Drum’n’Bass Essentials.”
Reason’s sequencer sees further refinement in this update with two highly requested features: a tool for slicing clips or notes into specific divisions, like 16th notes, and a function to split clips at the song position pointer, allowing for faster and more flexible editing.
Reason 13.1 is available now as a free update, with all devices also compatible through the Reason Rack Plugin (VST3/AU/AAX), making it accessible in any DAW.
